Description

12 The Green is a house dating from the mid-17th century, which was extended at the rear and refronted in the early 19th century. It is constructed of limestone ashlar with rubble sides and features a slate roof, a large external stack at the rear, and a gable stack. The building has a two-room parallel plan, with a hall and kitchen on the left heated by the large rear lateral stack, and it extends to an L-shape with a right-hand rear wing.

The house is two storeys high with an attic and has a three-window range. The front elevation includes pilasters, a cornice, and a parapet. The right-hand doorway has a plain surround and a bracketed pediment above a six-panel door with glazed top panels. The windows are framed with architraves and consist of six-over-six pane sashes, with a round-arched window on the first floor above the door featuring imposts and a key to a four-over-four pane sash. There are also two hipped dormers with casement windows.

At the rear, there is a large external stack with a gabled top on the left side. The rear range is set at an angle to the front and has been rebuilt with coursed, squared rubble on the upper floors, including a first-floor six-over-six pane sash in an exposed frame.

Inside, the property was remodelled in the 19th century and features an entrance stair hall with a 20th-century stair, panelled doors, and shutters. The roof was not seen during the inspection.
