Description
8 and 9 The Green is a late 18th-century cloth mill that has been converted into flats. The building is constructed from coursed limestone rubble with limestone dressings, featuring ashlar gable stacks and a stone slate roof. It has a single-depth plan with four storeys and an attic, and a five-window range. The gables are coped, and the windows consist of three lights with raised surrounds to flat-faced stone mullions and casements that include horizontal glazing bars, arranged in groups of two, one, and two. There are central and left-hand doors set in raised stone surrounds. The attic is visible at the rear. The interior has not been inspected. Originally, there was a railed front garden with a wide gate and a full-width canopy. This building is an important example of pre-industrial cloth production in Wiltshire, noted for its well-preserved environment from pre-factory days.
