Description
Retreat is a house located on Urchfont High Street, dating from the 17th century, 18th century, and early 19th century. It features Flemish bond brickwork and a thatched roof. The building is two stories tall, with an attic and basement, and originally consists of three bays. It was extended to the right in the late 19th to early 20th century by adding two more bays with a slated roof. The central entrance has a six-panelled door topped by a flat canopy supported by shaped brackets. The right bay is partly made of diaper brick with a plat band, extending from the door to the left, which is in plain red brick. There are three-light casement windows in the right bay, a two-light window above the door, and a 20th-century window on the left, which replaced a door. The left gable features gable stacks and a bulls-eye window in the attic. The rear elevation is constructed of coursed greensand and includes two-light ogee moulded stone windows and a cross window in the center. The extension is not considered of special interest.
