Description
26 High Street is a house that has been converted into a shop and garage. It dates from the mid-18th century and has undergone alterations in the mid-19th century and early 20th century. The building is constructed of limestone rubble with brick gable stacks and features a stone slate roof. It has a double-depth plan and stands two storeys high with an attic, displaying a five-window range. The front has a parapet, but much of the ground floor has been removed; there is a garage entrance on the right and an office on the left. The first floor has 6/6-pane sash windows in exposed boxes, and there are two gabled casement dormers. Attached to the fascia are three early petrol-pump feed lines. Inside, the ground floor has been completely remodelled. Historically, it is noted to have been a watchmaker's shop in the early 19th century.
