Description
Bowden Park Farmhouse is a farmhouse dating from around 1800. It features a stucco front with ashlar dressings and ironstone rubble side walls. The roof is made of stone slate and has a hipped valley design, topped with a large ashlar embattled axial stack. The building is two stories tall and has a square plan, with an eye-catching three-window embattled Gothick front.
The farmhouse has an ashlar plinth, band, cornice, and battlements. On the first floor, there are three Y-tracery sash windows with intersecting glazing bars set in Tudor-arched ashlar frames. The ground floor has paired Y-tracery sashes with intersecting glazing bars in arched ashlar surrounds. The central door features intersecting tracery in the overlight and is now set within a 20th-century imitation stone embattled porch that has a similar Tudor-arched door and overlight.
The south side wall is rendered and includes a pair of beaded two-light mullion windows on each floor. The north side is made of ironstone rubble and has similar beaded mullion windows. There is a lean-to at the rear. This farmhouse is noted for its unusually elaborate picturesque design, characteristic of estate buildings.
