Description

The Conduit House is a 16th-century conduit house constructed of limestone ashlar with a steep gabled roof made of interlocking stone slabs and a projecting moulding. The building is roughly square in plan, with a west-facing door set within a plain chamfered surround and a cyma-moulded cornice above. A roundel sits above the door, featuring a raised foliage border framing an eroded raised plaque. A similar roundel is present on the east end wall. A moulded plinth runs along the base. The doorway may be a later addition, and the door itself appears to be of 19th or 20th-century date.

Inside, the floor is of stone and tile, with a drain near the door. A rectangular stone tank, aligned east/west, is sunk below the floor and has a moulded coping with slots indicating a former lid. An inlet opening with an inserted terracotta pipe is located at the east end, while a drain is present at the west end. Niches, built with ashlar and featuring shallow four-centred arches, are set into the north, east and south walls; the architraves contain historic graffiti consisting of dates and initials. The interior walls are finished with a coarse applied render. The roof structure features five closely-spaced rounded stone ribs. The building is surrounded by a metal railed fence with a gate.
