Description
This building is a barn located approximately 75 meters north-west of Littleton Wood Farm. It is likely from the late 16th century and has been altered over time. The structure is made of rubble stone and features a Bridgwater tiled roof. It is a single-storey building with an east gable end that has a wide recessed chamfered doorway with a hoodmould. There are three fragments of an egg and dart moulded cornice across the gable, which are probably reset, and a cyma-moulded plinth that continues to the left return. There is a blocked opening on the left return and remnants of another opening on the right return, while the west gable end has a blocked window.
Inside, the barn contains a shell-headed niche, possibly dating to around 1600, and fragments of a heavily-moulded cornice or architrave, as well as the right-hand jamb of a stone Tudor-arched fireplace. The heavy spine beam and joists are unchamfered. The roof, dating from the 19th century, has two bays with raking struts between the tie-beam and principals. This building is unusual; some or all of the interior features may have been reset, but it is unclear if they originated from another structure or different locations within this one. The blocked openings and later roof indicate a remodelling and a possible change of use. There are no records of this building ever being a chapel.
