Description
The building is a former chapel that has been converted into a barn, located to the north of North Farm Farmhouse. It dates back to the early 13th century and has undergone various alterations over the years. The structure is made of squared and coursed rubble with a pantiled roof. Although it has been significantly modified, the barn retains some medieval features.
On the south side, there are remnants of a chamfered plinth and a large blocked round-arched doorway with a chamfered inner edge, which is topped by a semicircular hoodmould. The west gable end features fragments of a chamfered plinth, flush alternating quoins, and the voussoirs of a small round-arched window set high in the wall, also under a hoodmould. The north side has a large irregular blocked opening to the east and a square-headed chamfered doorway with alternating jambs to the west.
There is a 19th-century barn on the east end and a 19th-century roof with coped gables. Inside, there is a very small trefoil-headed piscina in a pointed-arched surround and a large rectangular aumbry located at the east end of the south wall. Additionally, there is an opening, possibly another aumbry, at the east end of the north wall, and several voussoirs from a small blocked round-arched window above a large 20th-century opening in the east end. The 19th-century barn on the east gable end and the late 20th-century barn on the south side are not considered of special interest.
