Description
10 High Street is a house that has been converted into offices. It dates from the early 18th century and was altered in the mid-19th century. The building is constructed of red brick with limestone dressings and features a double-depth plan with a right-hand side through-passage. It stands three storeys tall and has a five-window range. The front is nearly symmetrical, with rusticated quoins leading to a coved cornice and a balustrade made of stone splat balusters and panelled dies. The right-hand doorway has panelled jambs and a bracketed swan's neck pediment above a panelled door. The windows are adorned with architraves and cornices, with the central ones featuring keyed round-arched heads and matching hoods, all fitted with 20th-century sash windows.
Inside, there is a central stairwell divided by an elliptical arch, with a left-hand open well stair that has column-on-vase balusters and a wreathed, ramped, and moulded rail. The front ground-floor room includes a cornice and a fire surround with reeded jambs. There are panelled rooms, although details from the original list are not available. This building showcases a fine early Georgian facade and makes an important contribution to the character of the street.
