Description
No. 12 High Street is a house and warehouse dating from the early 19th century, with a rear range from the late 17th or early 18th century. The front range is rendered, while the rear ranges are built of limestone rubble with dressings. It features brick gable stacks and an interlocking tile roof. The building has a double-depth plan, with the front house having two consecutive projecting rear ranges, all now open on the ground floor. It stands three storeys high and has a two-window front. The front includes a 20th-century shop front with plate-glass windows, and above are horned 6/6-pane sash windows. The rear range from the 17th century has a gable with timber lintels above the doorway and a first-floor hoist door with an 8/8-pane sash window, along with a 2-light plate-glass attic window. The south return features a lower gable with a single first-floor light towards the front, containing a 4/12-pane sash window. A lower two-storey range at the back connects with the building behind No. 12, known as Cross Hayes. The interior has been completely remodelled on the ground floor, while the upper floors have not been seen.
