Description

Nos 12, 12A, and 14 Bridge Street is a block of buildings dating from around 1830 to 1840, originally consisting of four houses. The structure is three storeys high and constructed of grey brick. It features a low pitch gable end slate roof with flat and moulded bracketed eaves. The upper floors have eight windows, one of which is blind, with recessed sashes and intact glazing bars.

The ground floor of Nos 12 and 12A has modern shop fronts, while No 14 features a wide segmented arched tripartite sash without glazing bars, a blocked doorway, and a single sash window to the right. The entrances to the remaining houses have panelled doors with rectangular fanlights. No 12 has panelled reveals, reeded architrave cases with rounded corner blocks, and shallow cornices.

No 14 has a return front facing the river to the west, with a gable end that has a stone moulding forming an open pediment. The second floor has two recessed sash windows, while the first floor has a tripartite segmented arched sash to the right. The ground floor includes a rectangular bay with a panelled surround to the lights. To the left, there is a wing with superimposed canted bays, some of which have glazing bars. Additionally, there is a lower two-storey rendered wing extending along the bank, featuring three windows and a cantilevered canted bay over the water.

Nos 12, 12A, and 14 form a group with the Salisbury Generating Station and St Thomas's Square.
