Description
Salisbury Generating Station, formerly known as Electric Light Works, is a former 18th century water mill with later 19th century and modern extensions. The building faces the bridge and Bridge Street, with a mill pond in front. The left section is from the 19th century, featuring flint and stone dressings and two gable-end stone mullioned and transomed tall windows, along with brick buttresses. The right section, dating from the 18th century, is built over the mill stream and consists of three storeys of red brick with small irregular wood casements. It has an old tile roof that is half hipped to the left. There are later extensions at the rear and a two-storey red brick range towards St Thomas's Square. The building is picturesque and forms a group with Nos 12, 12A, and 14 Bridge Street.
