Description
The Butler ledger, dated 1733, is located in a raised path 4 meters west of the south porch door of the Church of St. Bartholomew and All Saints in Wootton Bassett. This rectangular limestone ledger commemorates Robert Butler and features an inscription that reads: "My Marraige bed is in y duSt Christ in my Bride in whome I truSt, My Brede said come I did obey Here to remain till Judgement Day And then ariSe again shall I To live with ChriSt Eternally," flanked by hourglasses.
