Description
Two monuments in the churchyard, located 4 metres east of the chancel of the Church of St Michael and All Angels, are late 18th-century chest tombs made of limestone. The first tomb belongs to the Smith family and features fluted angle pilasters adorned with floral sprays and putti in shallow relief, creating two oval inscription panels on the south side, along with a moulded plinth and a cyma recta moulded slab. The second tomb is unidentified and has swagged angle pilasters with two raised and fielded panels on each side. It displays eroded incised Roman lettering on the south panel, a moulded base, and a cyma recta moulded slab. At the time of resurvey in July 1986, this second tomb was noted to be sinking and collapsing.
