Description

An early 19th century pair of cottages located in Seend, Martinslade. They are constructed of ashlar with a slate pyramid roof and an apex stack. The cottages are back-to-back, with identical north and south elevations. Each floor features two 16-pane sashes, and a central door sheltered by a hood supported on brackets. All windows and the door are set within flush ashlar surrounds, with a raised string course tying the design together. According to local accounts, the cottages were built for employees of Wragg’s Wharf, situated opposite. The back-to-back arrangement is considered uncommon for rural Wiltshire.
