Description
The Three Magpies Inn is an inn built around 1810, with an extension added in 1937. It is constructed of red brick with ashlar dressings and features a slate roof, with end stacks and a ridge stack at the original south end. The north gable is coped, and the south gable is half-hipped. The building has two storeys and was originally a three-window range, which has been extended in a matching style to five windows.
Architectural details include flush quoins, paired 12-pane sash windows in flush surrounds, a raised plinth, a band, and a coved eaves cornice. The original part of the inn has double doors set in a reeded ashlar surround with a pediment on brackets and an arched-headed blank panel above, featuring raised imposts and a key. There are paired sashes on each side of the entrance. The extension to the left has a matching doorcase with paired sashes above, similar sashes on the first floor to the left, and a ground floor projecting square bay with three sashes.
To the right of the original range is a stable that has been converted, featuring a plain tile roof and a coped north gable. This stable has a 20-pane sash window to the left and a stable door to the right, flanked by small casements and topped with a roundel, all in ashlar flush surrounds. The north-east angle has flush quoins. The inn was known as the New Inn until 1938.
