Description
Nos 52, 53, and 54 High Street are three cottages in a row, dating from the 17th and 18th centuries. They feature square-panelled timber-framing with brick nogging set on a rubble stone plinth, topped with a thatched roof and brick stacks. The cottages have a gable end facing the road and are single-storey with an attic, displaying a six-window front on the west side.
No 52 has a planked door flanked by two-light casements, and two eyebrow dormers with 2-light casements in the attic. No 53 is rendered and has a 20th-century door within a thatched porch, with a 2-light casement to the right and two 2-light leaded casements on the first floor. No 54 features a 20th-century lean-to porch with a 2-light casement to the left and two 2-light leaded casements above. The left side facing the street has a 2-light casement on the ground floor. The rear of No 52 includes a 20th-century lean-to extension and porch, along with eyebrow dormers, while the rear of No 54 has a 20th-century gabled wing with a thatched roof. The interiors were not accessible during the survey in March 1987.
