Description

The milepost opposite The Old Manse is a cast-iron structure dating from 1840. It features a moulded pedimented top and has raised lettering on the front indicating the distances to Salisbury (14 miles) and Warminster (7 miles). This milepost is part of a series of cast-iron mileposts and boundary posts located on turnpikes that radiate from Warminster, and it was made by the ironfounders Carson and Miller around 1840.
