Description
The Wool House is a detached house dating from the early 19th century. It features a stucco exterior and a Welsh slate roof with deep eaves supported by paired brackets, along with ashlar stacks. The building is two stories high and has five windows.
The entrance consists of double doors with fielded panels set within a recessed porch that is supported by pilasters. To the right of this porch is a short projecting wing with channelled quoins. The right side has a 2-light cast-iron casement window with diamond panes, while the left side features a canted ground floor bay with French windows. The left range includes a 4-panelled door, a tripartite casement, and additional 2-light cast-iron casements. On the first floor, there are three 2-light cast-iron casements on the left, one in the wing, and two in the right-hand range.
The rear of the house has similar casements and French windows as seen at the front. Inside, the staircase is notable for its stick balusters. The Wool House was likely built as the residence for the manager or owner of the nearby Wool Store.
