Description

The Wool Store is an early 19th-century woollen mill, now disused and partly converted into a theatre. It is located on the south side of Codford High Street in Codford St Peter. The building is constructed of Flemish bond brick, with chamfered stone quoins, and has a Welsh slate hipped roof with deep eaves. A brick stack with a dentilled capping is situated on the right.

The symmetrical front has seven windows and is three stories high. The ground floor features a central group of three round-headed windows: the centre one is blind, and the side ones are louvred with fanlights. Flanking these are blind doorways with cambered heads and round-arched windows with louvres, all with keystones. The first and second floors each have seven 3-light casement windows with cambered heads and keystones. A blind window or 3-light casement with a cambered head is visible on the right return of the second floor.

A 20th-century stair turret is attached to the left return. Planked loading bays are also present on the left. A two-story range attached to the right has three blocked windows and two blocked doorways, with a planked door to the left and a blind window and doorway to the left of centre. The first floor has four small, pivot-hung, blocked windows. A large cart entry, featuring chamfered quoins and now the entrance to the theatre, is positioned on the right-hand side of the range.

The rear of the building has three 2-light pointed windows with Y tracery on each of the three floors; all are blind except for the centre window on the middle floor. A decorative facade faces The Wool House.
