Description

Stable Cottage is a pair of semi-detached cottages located on the south side of Codford High Street, Codford St Peter. The core of the building dates to the 17th century, with a likely rebuilding probably recorded by a datestone above the doorway inscribed β€œIC/1722”. The cottages are constructed of dressed limestone with a chamfered plinth, and have a tiled roof with a coped verge on the right-hand side and a hip on the left. There are brick stacks. The layout is L-shaped, with a passage leading to the rear of the stack.

The cottages are two storeys high and have four windows. A six-panelled door is centrally located, with another door to the left. To either side of the central doorway are two-light casements, and above the door is an oval datestone. The first floor has four two-light casements, and the masonry of the first floor is likely from the 18th century. At the rear, there are three-light and two-light recessed chamfered mullioned casements, along with 20th-century casements set within a brick and rubble stone rear wing. An entrance to one of the cottages (No. 112) is located on the east side of this wing. The interior was not accessible when surveyed in March 1987.
