Description

Hans Farmhouse is a farmhouse dating from around 1700, constructed of rubble stone with rough rendering and stone tiled roofs. The building features end wall and ridge stacks on the main range, with a coped gable at the north end. There is a south end wall stack on a lower range to the south, and a large outside stack on the southwest rear wing.

The main house is two stories with an attic, featuring two hipped dormers topped with ball finials. It has rusticated ashlar quoins and an ashlar coved eaves cornice. The front has three windows: on the first floor, there are paired outer sash windows and a single central sash window, all with raised moulded stone surrounds. The outer pair consists of 18-pane sashes with thick glazing bars.

On the ground floor, there is a three-light chamfered stone-mullion window with a hoodmould on each side of an impressive stone doorcase, which has staff moulding and fielded panels around it, with two panels on each side and three above. The doorcase is topped with a stone hood supported by carved brackets, and the door itself is a six-panel design. There is also a two-light window with a hoodmould on the north end wall, on the first floor, and a rear gable with a two-light stair light featuring a hoodmould.

To the left of the main house is a lean-to range. At the south end of the main front, there is a one-and-a-half storey range with a dormer gable. This section has early 18th-century raised moulded surrounds to the sash windows, with one window range on the front and two on the south end. The upper sashes have thick glazing bars, while the lower sashes are from the 19th century.

The rear wing features a door with a raised staff-moulded surround on the south side, along with one window range of sashes in surrounds with moulded jambs. The lower window has a 15-pane thick glazing bar sash with a dripstone above, and a 19th-century sash above that. The interior is reported to have a fine panelled room at the south end and an early 18th-century staircase.
