Description

The Little House with attached walls and railings is a pair of cottages, now functioning as a detached house, located on the north side of Heytesbury High Street. Built around 1800, it features English garden wall bond brick and a tiled hipped roof with an axial brick stack. The house has a central lobby entry and is two storeys high with four windows, all fitted with casements. A central gabled porch leads to a planked door with strap hinges, flanked by one-light and two-light casements on either side. The first floor has four two-light casements, and the roof has deep eaves. The returns of the building are made of rubble stone. At the rear, there is a two-storey, 20th-century flat-roofed extension. Inside, the house contains planked doors and blocked open fireplaces. The flanking rubble stone walls, which have flat stone coping, extend from the corners of the house to full-width cast-iron front railings adorned with spearheads. A cast-iron central gate is hung on iron posts topped with small urn finials.
