Description
No. 23 is a house, now functioning as one of two cottages, dating from the late 16th to 17th century. It features a timber frame and brick construction with brick noggings and a thatched roof. The building is single storey and attic with two storeys, comprising 3½ bays and a rear wing to the right of the center. The plan follows a lobby entry layout. The central entrance, which remains with No. 22, is located under a round arched open porch, while a second entrance has been added in the 20th century on the right gable end. The windows are timber casements. The left two bays have been raised to two storeys, displaying wide panelled studding at the front and close studding at the rear. The right bay features square panel studding, three panels high, on a rebuilt high brick sill, with the brick infilling replacing the original wattle and daub. Inside, there are ceiling beams and a clasped purlin roof.
