Description
Wedhampton Manor is a house dating from the mid-17th century, with substantial alterations in 1701 and 1722. It was built for Henry and Susanna Eyre. The main part of the house is constructed of English bond brickwork on stone foundations, featuring raised flush quoins and stone dressings. It has a stone-tiled roof. The building is two storeys high, with a cellar and attics, and consists of five bays. A rear wing to the left incorporates a timber-framed structure from the 17th century, which was refaced in the early 19th century.
The interior features a central stair hall to the 18th-century section, flanked by reception rooms. The central bay projects forward and contains timber-glazed doors within a stone architrave, topped by a broken and scrolled pediment supported by consoles. The windows are twelve-paned sashes, most of which were altered around 1722, replacing an earlier window scheme with blocked narrow side lights. The side bays also have twelve-paned sashes with nearly flush boxes, and segmental arches over the ground-floor windows. A dentilled cornice runs along the eaves. The date "1701" and the initials "E/HS" are inscribed on the hopper heads. The interior is not documented in the listing but is said to contain 17th-century panelling, along with full 18th-century panelling and cornices in the front rooms.
