Description

2 Northgate Street is a late 18th century building of two storeys. It is constructed of cement-rendered stone, set upon a projecting plinth. A panelled string runs at the level of the first-floor window sills. The front is arranged with three bays, featuring four pilasters that have incised lines and a key pattern detail at the top and bottom. These pilasters support a small eaves cornice, with two brackets per bay. The first floor has three windows with double recessed and moulded panels over the tops. The ground floor has two windows and a central six-panel door. The door is flush-faced, with reeded edging to the panels, and is sheltered by a Doric porch with two columns, wall pilasters, an incised frieze, and a cornice. Contemporary wrought iron railings are present to the left. Nos 1 to 18 (consec) and all listed buildings on the South West Side of Market Place form a group.
