Description

The gate piers and offsets of number 16, dating from the 18th century, are located at the entrance to an alley on the southwest side of Market Place. The gate piers are made of square, panelled stone and feature secondary offsets topped with inverted scrolls. Each pier has moulded caps and is adorned with stone urns. These gate piers are part of a group of listed buildings that includes all the structures on the southwest side, the southeast side, the Market Hall, Market Cross, and the Fountain, as well as the buildings numbered 1 to 18 consecutively on Northgate Street.
