Description
No. 12 Market Place is an early 19th-century building that has been altered. It stands four storeys tall with a front made of Bath stone, featuring flanking pilasters at the upper part, a cornice, and a blocking course. The building has three recessed sash windows with intact glazing bars, set within stone architrave surrounds, and there is an additional cornice above the first-floor windows. The ground floor has a later plain shop front that has a different character from the upper levels. The design of this building is reasonably cohesive with the neighbouring structures. It is part of a group of listed buildings on the south-west side, as well as being part of a larger group that includes Nos. 1 to 18 (consecutive) Northgate Street.
