Description
The Erlestoke War Memorial is located in the churchyard of the Church of the Holy Saviour, which is also a Grade II-listed building, next to the south door of the church. The memorial features a simple Latin cross that rises from the moulded collar of a tall, octagonal shaft. This cross shaft is set on a three-stepped base that is square in plan. The lower step includes a simple cornice designed for laying wreaths and floral tributes.
The main inscription starts on the front face of the upper step of the base and continues onto the middle step, reading: 1939 – 1945 / IN PROUD AND GRATEFUL MEMORY OF / THE MEN OF THIS PARISH WHO FELL / IN THE GREAT WAR 1914 – 1918.
