Description
Rose Cottage and Gable Cottage are a pair of estate cottages built in the early 19th century. They are constructed from squared rubble stone and feature a half-hipped plain tile roof, which replaced thatch, along with a central stack. The cottages are one and a half storeys tall and have a three-window range. The first floor has three arched windows that break the eaves under gables, adorned with elaborate mid-19th century bargeboards. On the ground floor, there are two pairs of casement windows with flat stone heads and raised keystones, along with a single central doorway that leads to two inner doors. The doorway features a moulded lintel and keystone, a reused heavily carved Jacobean frieze, and a stone hood supported by brackets. The windows are fitted with iron casements and small-paned leaded lights. The upper windows have Y-tracery heads with intersecting leading and an acorn motif in the top spandrel, while the center window is blind.
