Description

The George and Dragon Inn is a 17th-century inn that was altered in the 19th century. It features a roughcast exterior over a timber frame and has plain tile roofs. The building includes 19th-century carved bargeboards, a ridge stack on the main range, and a north end stack on the crosswing. It is two storeys high.

The main range has a long triple casement and a pair of casements on the first floor, while the ground floor has a casement, a triple casement, and a framed plank door located at the angle to the crosswing, which is sheltered by a tiled porch supported by half-columns—one on the main range and one on the wing. The east end wall has a long triple casement on the first floor. The crosswing features a brick plinth, a triple casement on the east side for the first floor, and a two-window range of casement pairs on the north end, with the lower pair situated under a dripcourse and the upper pair each having a hoodmould. There is a lean-to on the west wall and a parallel rear range.

Inside, there is a moulded Tudor-arched stone fireplace backing onto the entrance passage, with some framing and chalk lump walling exposed. The ground floor room on the west side has a heavy chamfered beam and a timber-lintel fireplace on the rear wall.
