Description

Slade's Farmhouse is a house with an attached dairy, built in the late 17th century or early 18th century. It is constructed of rubblestone and features a stone slate roof with saddleback coped verges, kneelers, and finials. The building has two storeys and an attic, with three windows on the front. The central studded door is framed by a moulded architrave and has a continuous drip mould over the lintel. The windows on the ground floor are three-light cyma moulded mullions, with the same style on the first floor, plus one two-light window above the door. There are two Cotswold-type attic gables, each with one two-light cyma moulded mullion and drip moulds. The left return gable features a bull's eye window at the top right. Attached to the left is a single-storey dairy with a stone slate roof, flat coped verge, and a stone stack, which includes one three-light cyma moulded mullion. The rear of the building is similar but lacks attic gables, and the rear door is located to the left in the dairy, also with a drip mould above. Inside, the room to the left of the front door contains a fine moulded four-centred arched fireplace with a moulded cornice and stops, a bread oven to the right of the fireplace, and a spice cupboard in the rear wall. The central stairs lead to the upper levels. The house is said to have been built around 1750 by the de Slade family, who were weavers in the area.
