Description
The Black Horse Inn is an inn built in 1765 and extended around 1939. It is constructed of red brick with ashlar dressings and has a plain tile roof. The building is two storeys high and features an original three-window range with flush cyma-moulded stone mullion windows and leaded lights. There are three-light windows on each side and a 2-light window above the door, which is set in a flush moulded surround. A 20th-century porch has been added. To the right, the 1939 extension includes a ground floor neo-Georgian bowed timber porch and a 4-light mullion window above it. The north-west rear wing also has mullion windows. Historical photographs reveal a gabled front porch and a small brewery that was attached to the east end. The sale of land for the inn is recorded in 1765 to William Catchway, and the Black Horse is first mentioned in 1768.
