Description

The Manor House is a house dating from the 17th and 19th centuries, constructed from rubble stone with a slate roof, featuring coped gables, end stacks, and a ridge stack. It has two storeys and an attic. The left side of the house has a three-window range that appears to be from the mid-19th century, with leaded mullion windows and hoodmoulds. There are three-light windows on each side and a two-light window above the door, which is set in an ornate Gothic porch. This porch has an ogee timber arch and ashlar cusped narrow sidelights. The original range on the right features leaded hollow-moulded recessed mullion windows with hoodmoulds, including one four-light window above and two three-light windows below. The east end wall has single lights on the first floor and a projecting chimney. There is a rear wing with a taller stone slate roof, which has a one-window range of two-light recessed chamfered mullion windows on the left, a straight joint, and an eaves casement and ground-level casement pair on the right. The house was formerly known as Manor Farmhouse and is said to be a wing of a much larger building. The great Cherhill Tithe Barn, which was demolished in 1956, was part of the farm and stood south of the church. A drawing by J. Buckler from 1806 shows a large gable on the Manor House.
