Description
Swiss Cottage is a shooting lodge with an attached gamekeeper's cottage, built in the mid-19th century for the Colston family of Roundway Park. The lodge is a two-storey timber-frame structure featuring decorative split-log cladding and an asbestos deep eaves roof that extends over a wide two-storey verandah supported by timber posts. It has a stack at the north end and original barge boards on the north end gable. There are outside stairs on the east side leading up to the verandah balcony. The original leaded windows have been replaced with plastic double-glazed windows, with four lights on the first floor and two lights below. The gamekeeper's cottage, located behind the lodge, is a two-storey red brick building divided into two sections, also featuring a north end stack and decorative split-log cladding on the north end section. Inside, the ground floor front room includes a mid-19th century Tudor style fireplace, while the first floor room boasts a fine late 18th-century painted fireplace with a carved plaque, which was likely transferred from Roundway Park.
