Description

This is a 17th-century house, with later alterations, located on White Street in Easterton. The original house is timber-framed with brick infilling, and has a 20th-century pantiled roof. It started as a single-storey and attic dwelling, but was raised to two storeys. The main living room features a framed half-bay with a stack in the gable, and an internal bay. The timber framing is three panels high, resting on a malmstone sill, and includes corner braces, all raised by a fourth panel with a chamfered oversailing wall plate, which was heightened when the thatch was replaced. A third bay, incorporating heating, was added to the original gable stack in the late 18th century. A central six-panelled door is set within an open gabled porch, and above the door, the name "Fairfield Farm" is inscribed on a stone. Ground-floor windows are six-paned sashes, while upper-floor windows are paired casements. The extension has three-light leaded windows. The left gable has been rebuilt in brick in the 20th century, and a lean-to has been added.
