Description
The Diocesan Registry, located at No. 6 The Close, dates back to 1594 and features elements from the 17th century and earlier. This two-storey building with an attic has a string course and a gable with stone coping on the left side. The attic includes a central two-light stone mullioned casement set within the gable, while the first floor has three four-light similar windows. On the ground floor, there are two two-light stone mullioned windows and a plain arched doorway with a ledged door to the right. The upper casements are leaded, and there are relieving arches over the windows with raised brick voussoirs. The south gable end features one attic lattice casement and two small lattice casements on the first floor, all within stone surrounds. The Diocesan Registry is part of a remarkable group of listed buildings in The Close.
