Description

34 The Close is a building with origins dating back to the 17th and 18th centuries, with alterations made in the 19th century. It has two storeys and an attic, and is faced with stucco. The steep gable end is topped with an old tile roof. The north front features a gable, with the upper part recently covered in tile hanging. The windows are irregularly arranged, including a late 18th-century canted bay window with a moulded cornice on the first floor. The remaining windows are 19th-century casements, some of which are early, while others are later additions with stone mullions and drip moulds. There was previously an 18th-century door beneath the canted bay.

The east front has two gables with bargeboards, dating from the 19th century. To the left, there is a two-storey 19th-century canted bay with a pent roof, featuring mullioned transomed casement lights and pointed panels on the apron. A two-light casement is positioned to the right on the first floor, alongside a pointed stone archway with a drip mould below, where the door is set back.

The south front is characterized by double gables, with early 19th-century casements to the right and a later single-storey extension. To the left in the attic, there is a two-light stone mullioned 17th-century casement. A late 18th-century canted bay window with a pent roof is present on the first floor, with sash windows that retain their glazing bars. The ground floor features a glazed door and an early 19th-century casement. The building is picturesque in appearance.
