Description
31 The Close is a building dating from 1594, with an early to mid 18th century recasing of an earlier structure. It is two storeys high with an attic and is finished in stucco. The building features a moulded eaves cornice and has an old tile roof that is hipped with a round cornice at the corners. There are two hipped dormers, one of which has leaded casements. The first floor has four windows, while the ground floor has three, all without glazing bars. A central two-storey bay projects at the first floor level and has windows in each side wall, along with a moulded string at the first floor and a cornice at the eaves level. To the left of the bay is a six-panel door set in a panelled recess, which has a small moulded cornice and flanking pilasters. The east wall is tile hung with shaped tiles. All the listed buildings in The Close form an outstanding group.
