Description

The buildings at 134 and 135 High Street date from the 18th century and have been altered subsequently. They are a three-storey structure with a tile-hung façade featuring shaped tiles, a small frieze, and moulded coping. An old tile roof is present. The upper part of the building has four two-storey angular bays, each containing 19th-century windows. The ground floor exhibits a plain 19th-century shop front sheltered by a pent roof supported by five Doric columns with a frieze and dentilled cornice; triglyphs are placed above each column. All elements of the shop front are from the 18th century. These buildings are part of a group which includes numbers 131 to 144 (inclusive) and the Midland Bank, along with the Town Hall and numbers 1 to 12 (inclusive) opposite.
