Description

Nos 139 and 140 High Street are a building dating from the 16th and 17th centuries, altered in the 19th century. They are a three-storey building with twin gables fronted with shaped tiles. All the windows are 19th century and include a shop front on the ground floor. The gables retain original carved barge boards. A wing, likely dating from the 17th century or earlier, extends to the rear. The buildings are set within a group that includes Nos 133 to 144 (consecutive), the Midland Bank, the Town Hall and Nos 1 to 12 (consecutive) on the opposite side of the street.
