Description
The Midland Bank, located on the north side of High Street, is an early 20th-century building constructed from ashlar stone. It features a pitched roof and consists of one storey. The façade is adorned with a full entablature, a modillion cornice, and a parapet. There are four banded pilasters, and the two outer bays contain doorways with plain architraves and panelled reveals; the left doorway is open while the right has a panelled door. Above these doorways are two oval oculi with glazing bars. The central bay is rusticated and includes a round-arched window with glazing bars and a keystone set in a concave surround, featuring a sill with a fret pattern. An iron canopy supported by fluted consoles with guttae extends over the outer bays, with a panelled frieze and anthemiae above the cornice linking both parts of the canopy. The Midland Bank, along with Nos 131 to 144 (consecutive) and the Town Hall, forms a group with Nos 1 to 12 (consecutive) opposite.
