Description
This is an 18th-century building on the north side of High Street. It is a four-storey structure, originally with a tile-hung front, now using modern tiles, and features a moulded wood cornice and parapet. The roof is tiled. The building has two windows on the second and third floors. A prominent, large, angular bay window is located on the first floor, featuring a central triple window flanked by side lights, all within moulded frames divided by pilasters, and topped with a moulded cornice. A plain 19th-century shop front is present at ground level, sheltered by a pent roof supported by Doric columns with a dentilled cornice. A long wing extends to the rear. The construction materials include chalkstone, flint, and chequer brick; the first floor is partly tile-hung. Other features include three wooden mullion windows with lead intersected glazing bars, and a door with a flat hood supported by cut brackets. The building forms a group with numbers 131 to 144 (inclusive) and the Midland Bank, as well as with the Town Hall and numbers 1 to 12 (inclusive) opposite.
