Description
Nos 23 and 24 on St John's Street are 18th-century buildings that stand three storeys tall. Part of the structure is timber framed, with a stuccoed ground floor featuring a first-floor band. The upper floors are pebbledashed, likely over a timber frame. The building has a steeply pitched gable end slate roof. The left bay of the building has been demolished, leaving only a four-centred arched beam over the former passageway between No 23 and the adjoining Liberal Club at St John's Court. The second floor has two coupled windows, while the first floor features a small canted 19th-century bay window with later glazing bars and two sash windows with intact glazing bars. The ground floor includes two sash windows and two recessed doors, each with six flush panels, the top panels being glazed. Nos 23 to 41 in sequence, along with part of the National Westminster Old Bank in Market Place, form a notable group.
