Description
Nos 1 and 2 in St John's Churchyard are an early to mid 19th century pair of cottages designed in a free Tudor style. They are single-storey buildings constructed from coursed rubble with stone dressings. A moulded string course runs below the parapet, which features two panels and moulded coping. The gable end has a stone tile roof with chimneys on either side. The cottages have three recessed two-light iron frame leaded casements set in dressed stone surrounds, each with drip moulds above. There are also two recessed battened doors, similarly surrounded to the windows, with three-centred arches and drip moulds above. The overall appearance is picturesque.
Nos 1 and 2 are part of a group that includes Nos 1 to 4 (consecutive) and the Liberal Club in St John's Court, as well as Tower Lee on St John's Walk.
