Description
The structure consists of double gates, two gate piers, and six bollards, located approximately 20 meters northwest of the tower of the Church of St Andrew in Chippenham. These features date from the mid-19th century. The gate piers are made of ashlar stone, while the gates and bollards are crafted from cast and wrought iron. The double gates are adorned with cast-iron fleur-de-lis finials on the railings. They feature two horizontal bars across the center with circles between them, from which quadrant rails rise to the top center, creating an inverted semicircle when closed. The square gate piers have low plinths, wide shallow cornices, and steep pyramidal caps. The bollards, positioned with two to the north and four to the south of the gates, are tapered and topped with spherical heads.
