Description
The Hitchcock and Jefferys monuments are two chest tombs located about 9 meters south of the southeast angle of the chancel of the Church of St Laurence. The tombs date from the late 18th century and early 19th century and are made of ashlar.
The first monument, belonging to John Hitchcock, features plain slab sides with a chamfered base and cap, and it bears an inscription noting his death in 1776. The second monument, dedicated to Stephen Jefferys, has a moulded base and cornice, with painted fluting on the frieze and baluster angles, and slab sides. The inscription on this tomb indicates that Stephen Jefferys died in 1834.
