Description
Fovant War Memorial is a memorial dedicated to those who served in the First World War, with an addition for the Second World War. It is situated in front of the village hall at the junction of Tisbury Road and Dinton Road, near the center of the village.
The memorial features a stone Latin cross fleurée on top of a square, tapering column that has a moulded cap and foot. This column rises from a square plinth, which sits on a chamfered base.
The plinth displays an inscription and the names of the fallen in incised lettering, painted black. The south-east face of the plinth reads, "IN GRATEFUL MEMORY OF THE MEN FROM THIS PARISH WHO GAVE THEIR LIVES FOR THEIR KING AND COUNTRY IN THE GREAT WAR 1914 – 1918 AND 1939 - 1945." The names of 22 individuals who died in the First World War are listed on the north-east and south-west faces of the plinth.
The memorial is set within an area of hardstanding that is enclosed by a dwarf stone wall, which has an opening on the south-east side for access to the memorial.
