Description
Euston War Memorial is a First World War memorial built in 1920, with additions for the Second World War. It is situated on the village green at the center of the village.
The memorial features a tall, stone Celtic cross with an angular wheel-head, which has interlaced knot work designs carved in relief on the west face of the cross arms. This cross stands on a tapering four-sided shaft, which rises from a tapering square plinth. The entire structure is set on a three-stepped square base. The dedications and names are inscribed in leaded lettering on the plinth and base.
The main dedication is found on an inset panel on the west face of the plinth, which reads: "IN GLORIOUS AND NEVER-FADING MEMORY OF THE MEN OF THIS PARISH WHO SO BRAVELY FOUGHT AND FELL FOR THEIR COUNTRY IN THE GREAT WAR 1914 – 1919." This is followed by ten names. Below this, on the west face of the upper step of the base, is the Second World War dedication, which reads "1939-1945" along with two names.
The memorial is surrounded by a circular stretch of metal fencing.
