Description

The Cross Keys Hotel is an inn that dates from the late 17th century, 18th century, and mid 19th century. It is constructed of dressed limestone and features a tiled roof with gable end brick stacks and coped verges. The building is two stories high with three windows. A central 19th-century gabled porch has double planked doors and side lights. To the right is a three-light recessed chamfered mullioned casement, while to the left is a 19th-century polygonal bay with a four-panelled door and sash windows. There is a lintel string course above the ground floor. The first floor contains three three-light ovolo-mullioned casements.

Attached to the left of the main building is a single-storey former stable range, now used as a bar, which has two four-light casements and a planked door. Further left is a 19th-century two-storey former carriage house featuring segmental-headed double planked doors, a planked door, and a three-light casement, with two three-light casements on the first floor. The rear of the building has lean-to extensions with two and three-light casements, and wooden steps leading up to the first floor of the carriage house. Inside the 17th-century range, there is an open fireplace with a cambered lintel on stone jambs, along with a chamfered beam that has stepped stops.
